Bhanja
Bihar: Berhampur University (BU) organized a two-day Gender Sensitization
Programme at the New Conference Hall here in the campus during November 28 and
29, 2017. The programme was sponsored by the Odisha State Commission for Women
(OSCW).

The
programme was inaugurated by chief guest Dr. Lopamudra Baxipatra, Chairperson,
OSCW along with guests of honour Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, MLA, Gopalpur and
Ms. B. Radhika, IPS, Additional Director General (ADG), State Armed Police
(SAP), Odisha. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das presided over the inaugural
meeting.
Addressing
the gathering, Dr. Baxipatra said, “Women are the backbone of our society.” She
went on explaining that man and woman are the two sides of a coin. Without women,
a beautiful earth can not be imagined. Woman is the symbol of tolerance. She can
create and can also destroy. University students get enriched every year for a
better future through such programmes, she added.
Through a
presentation, Ms. Radhika explained the different types stereotyped notions
regarding women. She spoke about infanticide, molestation, declining sex ratio,
honour killing, domestic violence, wage discrimination and gender bias. She also
screened short films like “Guess” and “Impossible Dream” to make her stand
clear before the gathering.
Programme
convenor Prof. Subasini Patnaik introduced the guests while the programme was
coordinated by Prof. Arundhati Rath.
The
valedictory function on the second day was graced by chief guest Dr. Ashok
Kumar Mohapatra, Senior Advocate, Odisha High Court. Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das,
Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Devi Prasanna Patnaik, Chairman, PG Council were also
present on the dais.
Meanwhile, the winners of different competitions on gender related issues
held during the programme were given away trophies by the guests.
